The number of vacancies arising in Co-operative housing is small. Acceptance into Co- operative Membership and the allocation of a dwelling will depend on a number of considerations.
- The main “gateway” to housing co-operative membership is the assessment of
housing need and prioritisation of applicants by the relevant local authority. In Galway City the length of time on the City Council Housing waiting list is an important consideration.
- The suitability of an available dwelling to address an applicants identified housing
needs.
- An applicant’s understanding of, and commitment to, meeting the requirements of
Co-operative Membership as well as the terms and conditions of our Tenancy Agreement.
- An applicant's participation in co-op membership familiarisation training.
- Consideration of an applicant’s previous tenancy record, any record of anti-social
behaviour, and the household income of the applicant.
All applicants invited into membership are required to make a small payment for shares in the co-operative as well as pay a nominal administration charge. Persons interested in finding out more about rental housing co-operatives are encouraged to contact us.
