Membership of a rental housing co-op
affords the following benefits:
As a member of a rental housing
co-op you voluntarily decide:
- You are a voting shareholder with a
say in the way the Co-operative is run.
- You elect a board of directors and
may stand for election yourself.
- You live in good quality housing that
will stay affordable because it’s run on a non-profit basis.
- You can live there for as long as you
like providing you keep the Tenancy Agreement.
- You are part of a community where
neighbours look out for one another.
- You have opportunities to get involved
in co-op activities and gain in skills and confidence.
- You can contribute to building future
housing options that address real housing need in your community.
- You are linked to other co-operatives
locally, nationally and internationally.
|
- That Co-operative housing responds to
your housing need.
- To be part of a self-help organisation
owned and managed by its members.
- To participate in the democratic
structures of the Co-op.
- To work to build a better community
based on co-operation.
- To act as a shareholder of the Co-
operative.
- To honour the terms of your Tenancy
Agreement.
As a Co-op Member / tenant you can, at the same time, expect to receive a service whilst sharing responsibility for its delivery.
Whether as a board member, committee member or in other ways, all members are encouraged to get involved in their co- operative to the best of their ability. The greater the involvement the more that can be achieved!
|
Membership of a co-op does not mean that we must all be the same! We respect and value each other and our differences and aim to forge a sense of common purpose. This is arrived at democratically. To ensure members have their say everyone is actively encouraged to attend and vote at the local and district general meetings.
